The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program is a competitive employment opportunity that allows young professionals to live and work in cities, towns, and villages throughout Japan. Being a JET is an opportunity to work and to represent the United States as cultural ambassadors to Japan. Most participants serve as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) and work in public and private schools throughout Japan; some work as Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) as interpreters/translators. These positions are sponsored by the Japanese government and recruited through local Japanese embassies. https://jetprogramusa.org/
This session will be led by Jeanne Beck, a JET alumni (2008-2011 Nagano Prefecture), recruiter, 2020 application reviewer, and ISU doctoral student on behalf of the Consulate General of Japan in Chicago. This session will be most helpful for students a year or more away from graduation, however, applicants interested in applying for JET for the 2021 application cycle are more than welcome to join. (Note: the 2021 application should be available in mid-October with a deadline in November and departure date of late July/August 2021.)
