How did you find out about the internship opportunity? What did the process look like from applying, interviewing, etc.?
Ann-Sophie learned about her internship opportunity through the ISU program, STEM Scholars. “The process was pretty straightforward as I had to apply through the AAMC [American Association Medical Colleges].” She also had to prepare a personal statement and submit a letter of recommendation.
What advice do you have for other students regarding jobs/internships?
“It never hurts to apply!” Ann-Sophie wasn’t expecting to get accepted for the internship program, but she is thankful her doubts didn’t discourage her from applying. “The internship provided valuable experience.” She recommends applying to AAMC internship programs if you are planning on pursuing a career in medicine, dentistry, or public health.
What are your plans after graduation?
“I plan to go to medical school after graduation and hopefully become a psychiatrist!”
What advice do you have for students seeking work experience in their field of study?
“Apply to as many opportunities as possible! Even if you don’t get [the position] the first time it will help you better prepare for future possibilities!”
