What advice do you have for fellow students regarding internship/job searches?

“Begin your search EARLY and use LAS Career Services! While the fall semester can be busy, prioritizing the internship/job search is extremely beneficial. When you do this, you could have your internship locked down within the first few months of the school year, alleviating a ton of stress! I scheduled multiple interview and resume appointments with [LAS Career Services], and they provided me with crucial insight regarding what employers would want to see and hear from me!”

Did you attend any ISU Career Fairs? How did you prepare to speak with employers?

“Yes! I attended the Business, Industry, and Technology Career Fair. I prepared to speak with employers by researching the companies and the positions they had open before I attended the fair. I prepared a few clarifying questions to ask while I was at their booth, and I made sure to follow up with employers afterward.”

What advice do you have for students seeking work experience in their field of study?

“Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there & use your course schedule to your advantage! One of my professors recommended that we create a document with applicable course concepts to use during interviews. This advice has been extremely useful for me during my internship/job searches!”

Have you used any resources provided by LAS Career Services? How was this helpful to you?

“Yes! I scheduled multiple advising appointments with LAS Career Services. At these appointments, I received advice regarding my resume and interview preparation. These meetings alleviated much of the stress associated with the internship/job search, as I felt more prepared and had a better understanding of what to expect.”
