Summer 2025 Internship

NielsenIQ Intern in Singapore and DXspark Intern in Lisbon, Portugal

How did you find out about the internship? What did the process look like from applying, interviewing, etc.?

“When I arrived at Iowa State University, I was already ahead in my coursework and eager to explore opportunities to travel abroad. I met with both the LAS Study Abroad Office and the ISU Study Abroad Office, which collaborate with Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE). CIEE is a study abroad organization that partners with universities around the world and offers a variety of academic and internship programs. Students can choose from a range of courses tailored to their interests. As part of the program, participants learn how to navigate an internship in a new country. CIEE then matches students with companies based on their skills and interests. Students then submit their resumes and indicate their preferred type of work. From there, companies schedule interviews, allowing both parties to determine if the placement is a good fit.”

What advice do you have for fellow students regarding internship/job searches?

“Put yourself in uncomfortable positions and reach out! Reach out to your network, career services, and people who will put you in the room you want to be in.”

How has the internship helped you prepare for your next career steps?

“I think taking the opportunity to do an internship abroad helped me gain a better understanding of different cultures, work ethics, and experiences.”

What are your plans after graduation?

“I have a big passion for working abroad. [Working internationally] helped me learn a lot about myself, and connecting with people was great.”

What advice do you have for students seeking work in their field of study?

“You don’t need to know everything. You will learn on the job. Learning from a mentor and learning from their mistakes is a good resource, as well as asking questions. Connecting to your networks (family, friends, LinkedIn, etc.) is also a good resource. Also, don’t be afraid to pivot where you are. I’ve changed my major and I’ve added minors. Testing out everything to understand what you really are passionate about will save you time in the future, and you’ll enjoy your career more.”

Have you used any resources provided by LAS Career Services?

“I took LAS 2030 sophomore year. I honestly learned a lot, and it helped me focus on what I really wanted. I switched to data science that year, and the class helped me look at the industry and see how networking is so important, like my LinkedIn profile, sending prospective emails, and setting up coffee chats with people.”
