Classroom to Careers: Career Fair Resources!

The semester has started and the countdown to the career fair has begun. In just one week employers will be filling Hilton and Scheman ready to hire some awesome students. To make sure you’re the most prepared, this blog is going to give you a big overview of all the resources that we have, as well as some fun upcoming events taking place this semester. Are you ready to land that job/internship?

Let’s start with the fundamentals: your resume and cover letter! If you don’t have a resume or cover letter, a great place to start would be looking at some of the examples we have on our LAS Career Services website. There are some tips and tricks on the best way to build one, and also examples based off of what major area you’re in.

Once you’ve honed your resume, then comes time for the fun part: prepping for the career fair! The People to People and Business, Industry, and Technology career fairs take place on Sept. 25 from 12:00-5:00pm at Hilton Coliseum and Scheman Building. Start by looking at the list of employers coming and do some research. You can also check out CyHire for the most updated lists. If you like what you see on their website and find intriguing position openings, add them on your list of people to talk to. We suggest finding 10-15 employers. If you’re looking for some great business professional clothing options, the Ames and Des Moines area have a lot of great options!
